Wills

A Last Will and Testament directs how assets are distributed upon your death.  A Will is necessary to avoid intestate succession, in which Iowa Probate Code determines how assets are distributed.  Intestate succession may result in distributions that do not match your wishes.

For parents with minor children, a Will allows you to designate a guardian to care for your children if both parents pass away.  A Will may incorporate instructions to establish a testamentary trust that is created upon your death, allowing a trustee to manage assets held in the trust.
